Higher Education and Job Training

The State of Wisconsin has among the lowest unemployment rates in the nation.  Employers appreciate our state's work force, work ethic, and favorable business climate.  In order to continue to provide a productive, skilled workforce, we must ensure that our higher educational facilities remain solvent and affordable, and that our young adults are not saddled with insurmountable debt as they begin their professional careers and families.

In my time in the legislature we have held UW System tuition frozen for the last 6 years.  We have also made it possible for all current and former college students in Wisconsin to refinance loans through the UW Credit Union.  Workforce training programs such as Wisconsin Fast Forward have invested millions of dollars assisting employers to train and retain their workers.  A heavy emphasis has been placed on encouraging high school graduates and second-career adults to consider the trades as a strong career opportunity.
